Walailak University organizes “WU Innovation Day”

Walailak University organizes “WU Innovation Day” — an annual innovation showcase for the fiscal year 2025, held from 25 – 27 August 2025.

This year, we are proud to present our innovation project entitled:  “A Search System for Classifying Material/Equipment Items”, which will be showcased on 26 August 2025.

The system was developed in response to recurring issues in previous operations. It was found that personnel in several departments still lacked a clear understanding of how to correctly classify materials and equipment. This has often resulted in errors in budgeting and misallocation of expenses. For example, purchasing equipment under compensation or material budgets, or procuring materials under investment budgets. Such misclassifications have led to the need for subsequent budget transfers, which in turn affected the speed and efficiency of operations.

Currently, there is no concrete guideline or systematic tool to support the classification of materials and equipment. Staff members must rely on personal judgment, prior experience, or seek clarification from the Procurement Division — the main responsible unit. This process has caused delays, redundancies, and reduced flexibility in procurement operations.

To address these challenges, the Procurement Division has developed the Material/Equipment Classification Search System. This system is designed to facilitate all departments, enhance accuracy, minimize errors, reduce processing time, and streamline the workflow of staff involved — ultimately improving the overall efficiency of the university’s operations.
