On February 10, 2026, Walailak University organized the annual “Tuad Tumpang” Merit-Making Ceremony for the year 2026. The event was presided over by Professor Dr. Sombat Thamrongthanyawong, President of Walailak University, and attended by university executives, staff members, and students at the Tumpang Ancient Site, Walailak University.
On this occasion, personnel from the Division of Property and Supplies also participated in the merit-making ceremony.
The “Tuad Tumpang” ceremony reflects a local belief of the people of Nakhon Si Thammarat Province. “Tuad Tumpang” is regarded as a sacred guardian spirit associated with the ancient Tumpang site within Walailak University and is often believed to appear in the form of a king cobra protecting treasures and maintaining peace and order in the area.
Historical evidence indicates that this area once served as a religious center for both Brahmanism and Buddhism. Therefore, Walailak University, through the Center for Arts and Cultural Preservation, has established this merit-making and worship ceremony as an annual tradition. The ceremony integrates both Brahmanical rituals for paying homage to deities and Buddhist rituals for dedicating merit, aiming to show respect to local guardian spirits and to strengthen morale within the Walailak University community.
